Pressed flower necklace contains pressed brown algae, collected in San Diego, CA & preserved in glass.

*1/2" X 1.5" & includes an 24" flat drawn cable link sterling silver chain; chain hooks at the U-shaped bail, at top of the piece.

each piece in the ocean collection contains pressed seaweed, gathered on the beaches of the southern California coastline.

The founder, Sylvia Earle is a marine scientist, explorer, activist, author, lecturer and hero for the earth. Her early work involved collecting, pressing & identifying/cataloging marine algae (seaweed). Her collection of more than 25,000 species of algae now lives at the Smithsonian.

The flowers are collected and pressed for several months (often years) before setting them in glass. To best care for them, store them out of sunlight - and keep them dry! Each piece contains a real plant or flower & is not waterproof ("not dishwasher safe or lifeguard approved").
